Prof. Dr. Jatna Supriatna, M.Sc adalah ilmuwan biologi dan pejuang konservasi yang memperteguh pentingnya Wallace Area dengan menjadikan Sulawesi dan pulau sekitarnya sebagai laboratorium alam untuk mendeduksi proses evolusi. Ia menemukan intergradasi sekunder dan hibridisasi di kawasan tersebut.

Primata hibrid yang ditemukannya menarik perhatian dunia karena hibridisasi memungkinkan terjadinya perubahan genetik dan perilaku serta sifat-sifat biologi lainnya. Selain primata hibrid dan monyet spesies baru, ia juga menemukan virus baru pada monyet ekor panjang Jawa Barat.

Jatna juga memimpin beberapa lembaga. Pada 1999 dia dipilih sebagai ketua Indonesia Biologist Association. Pada 2006, dia ditunjuk sebagai Presiden South East Asia Primatologist Association, dan pada 2007 menjadi salah satu ketua World Conservation Union-SSC PSG South East Asia.

Jatna telah menulis sepuluh buku tentang keanekaragaman hayati dan lingkungan Indonesia dan telah mempublikasikan lebih dari seratus artikel yang tersebar di berbagai jurnal ilmiah Internasional. Dia merupakan Anggota Komisi Ilmu Pengetahuan Dasar AIPI sejak 2011.

·       Professor in the field of Conservation Biology at the Department of Biology FMIPA Universitas Indonesia. 

·       Until 2022, promoters of more than 50 Master's and Doctoral programs at the Dept. of Biology FMIPA and the School of Environmental Sciences, all at the Universitas Indonesia. Three dissertations related to Sustainable Agriculture: Life cycle Assessment on Coffee, Life cycle on Palm Oil in the peatland Area, and understanding Sago Plantation sustainability, Emission reduction, Carbon Capture Storage, etc.

·       Over 230 scientific articles in various international reputable journals such as Science, Nature, PNAS, American Naturalist, Scientific Reports, Nature Human Behavior, Current Biology, Conservation Biology, Conservation Letters, Global Ecology and Conservation, Sustainability, Discover Sustainability, and others. 

·       More than thirty books on Environment and Conservation. 2 books related to Sustainability products: Sustainable Environmental Management: Lessons from Indonesia, Wildlife Tourism, National Parks of Indonesia, etc.

·       His Google Scholar H-index is 47, i-10 index is 120, and Scopus H-index is 33. Citations are 8295.

Recognition

·       The research results by World Conservation Union-IUCN SSC-Primate Specialist Group members immortalized his name for a new tarsier primate species from Gorontalo, North Sulawesi, Tarsius supriatnai. 

·       His name is also enshrined in the species name of the flying gecko from the Togean Islands, Central Sulawesi, with the name Draco supriatnai.

·       Indonesian researchers, during a survey in the West Bali National Park, a new type of gecko was found called the Bali Gecko (Cyrtodactylus jatnai). 

·       In an editorial opinion of the New York Times newspaper and in a book entitled Hot, Flat, and Crowded by Thomas L. Friedman, the very well-known bestseller and Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist of the New York Times described him as "The Noah of Modern History," and Conservation International refers to him as a "Conservation Warrior."
