Prof. Dr. Herawati Supolo-Sudoyo, M.S., Ph.D. is the Chair of the Medical Sciences Commission of the Indonesian Academy of Sciences (KIK-AIPI). She was born in Pare on Friday, 2 November 1951. She is a doctor, researcher and forensic DNA analyst at the Eijkman Institute for Molecular Biology.

Herawati graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Indonesia (UI) in 1977, followed by a Master’s degree from the same university in 1985. She then pursued her doctoral studies at the Department of Biochemistry, Monash University, in 1990.

Herawati founded the Eijkman Institute for Molecular Biology in 1993. To this day, she remains Head of the Forensic DNA Identification Unit at the Eijkman Institute, a lecturer in the Department of Biology at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Indonesia, and a lecturer at PTIK, the postgraduate programmes of Hasanuddin University and Diponegoro University.

In recognition of her contributions, Herawati has received a number of awards, including:

– Toray Foundation Research Award (1991–1992).

– Habibie Award (2008)

– Australian Alumni Award for Scientific and Research Innovation (2008)

– Police Medical Service Medal of Honour (2007)

– Recipient of the Integrated Excellence in Research Award (1993–1996)

– Third World Academy of Sciences Award (1992)
