Prof. Daniel Murdiyarso, Ph.D., who is the President of the Indonesian Academy of Sciences (AIPI) for the 2023–2028 term, received his first degree in Forestry from the Bogor Agricultural University (IPB). He subsequently obtained his Ph.D. in 1985 from the Department of Meteorology at the University of Reading, UK.
In 2000, Daniel served in the Indonesian government as Deputy Minister for the Environment for two years. He has also been the National Focal Point for the UNFCCC and the CBD since 2002.
Daniel is a Professor in the Department of Geophysics and Meteorology at IPB. His research focuses on land-use change and biogeochemical cycles, as well as climate change mitigation and adaptation. Daniel currently also holds the position of Principal Scientist at the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR).
